Education and Money!

            Ah, money. Money, money, money. The money provided by interests groups play a big deal in education. Contributions for such tend to come from those in the educational field. The amount of money donated to candidates and committee groups have greatly increased in the past 20 years. Additionally, during those past 20 years, the amount of money donated to the Democrats has increased. As expected, more money is donated during years that correspond with elections. Around the 2008 election, a total of $57.4 million and 82% of that money went to Democratic candidates.

            During the 2008 election cycle, the group that donated the most money is the University of California (yayy UCs!). The UCs combined contributed a total of $2.8 million at the federal level.

            A lot of other top contributors are also universities. Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, and the University of Chicago gave 86% of their money to Democratic candidates. One of the most important interests group for education is the National Education Association (NEA). From 2011 to 2012, Barack Obama was the top recipient with $61, 577 from the NEA’s PAC.
