A Collection of Notes regarding interesting impacts of "Da Shutdown"
Now most of the coverage regarding "Da Shutdown" has been understandably focused on the furlough of 800,000 federal workers, and actual impacts to the economy, foreign policy and other such intensely boring matters. To that I say, whatever. No the real impact, the real issue with this nonsense that House Republicans have brilliantly forced upon the American people, is meat.
Reported this morning: Soldiers at Fort Campbell in Kentucky have been stocking up on dried meat and other rations from the base general store. However, the store is about to run out, leaving the soldiers with no options for food besides the much more expensive Walmart located outside of town.
Thanks Speaker Bo(eh optional, you know, cause he's a d--k)ner. Why do you hate America? What is more 'Murican than our soldiers eating meat? This nonsense that you have perpetrated is robbing the most 'Murican of Americans, the armed forces, from enjoying their meat.
Next, Invasion from Canada
The government has claimed that "all essential national security personell" have been retained. Oh yea? Really? Commissioner Kyle Hipsley begs to differ. He is the border patrol officer for the US side of the Canadian border. Most recently stationed in Montana, he has been somewhat negatively affected by the shutdown. Namely, he was the sole officer deemed "essential" in his entire department, leaving him to staff the 545 mile long Montana-Canada border himself. Great. Now the Canadians can take over. In a year we'll all be speaking french trapper or whatever the weird secessionists up there speak in.
Booming Business for Museums
It only seems logical that during a federal shutdown, since federal museums are shut down, that the lucrative museum industry would experience a downturn. But, fantastically, that was not meant to be, instead, museums in DC, like the International Spy Museum, National Geographic Museum, Newseum, the National Building Museum and the Phillips Collection have all experienced gains in visitors of up to 30%. Why? Because furloughed federal employees need something to fill their days besides dive bars, which, interestingly enough are taking advantage of hundreds of thousands of employees who actually cannot go to work
Reflection
When looking at the shutdown in totality, the utter lack of logic by some of those involved absolutely stuns me.
Ramblings of Ridiculousness
First up we've got the always shouty Chris Matthews vs. Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Texas) on Ted Cruz's eligibility to be president. What an idiotic set of statements by the Representative who apparently cannot repeat after another individual (how the hell did he pass 2nd grade?)

Due to being eviscerated by the media, she did indeed eventually agree to give up her paycheck, but c'mon now. That was dumb.

ReplyDeleteI think the bigger issue here than the government shutdown is that the U.S. is going to default on it's debt on October 17th. Like in the video you showed, the GOP is being completely idiotic regarding the debt default. They're saying that the debt ceiling is a myth!!! In reality, if Congress doesn't raise the debt ceiling, there will be much bigger impact than the government shutdown!!!

Just watch, as David Schweikert (R-Arizona) puts the blame on liberals, of all people, for scare mongering. The government has NO cash!!! The U.S. is in trouble and the GOP is completely oblivious, like always.
As iDiotiCDesign says in his comment on the video, "Wow, it is hilarious how the same people who say they love America are willing to drive it into a cliff unless they have their way. Well, nice knowing you America, you had a good run. Say hi to Rome for me, will ya? Oh nevermind, you are taking us with you."
What I liked most about your post, really, was how you looked at the gov't shutdown. You provided a unique and fresh perspective on it by talking about things that havn't really been in the national spotlight. This shows that you are doing meticulous research and paying attention to all kinds of stories and details, as shown by the 'invasion by Canada', and the 'booming business for museums'.
ReplyDeleteBut, you still allocate some of your 400 word limit (which you definitely adhered to) to your own comments on the issue, to pretty much all of them I agree. There is too much miscommunication going on in Washington, including the 'logical reasoning' of Boehner.
So, Overall, good post! Also, good job including all the videos, good finds!

ReplyDeleteRunning out of meat? Invasion from Canada? Booming Museums? You bring up points that most people don't focus on! I find that interesting. It shows how large of an effect the shutdown has. I agree with you on how ridiculous the shutdown was. Instead of focusing on finding a compromise so that the government may move forward, we have both parties playing the blame game.
I enjoyed the videos and your post. Let's hope the politicians in Washington shift their focus onto more important matters. Let's hope they get their act together.
